Presentation Registration
Graduate students regularly present their research at department brownbags and research talks. Registering your presentations in PBS Knowledge keeps your record current and counts them toward your area's presentation requirement.
Presentation Requirements
Requirements depend on your research area:
| Area | How often | Starting when | Until |
|---|---|---|---|
| Behavioral | Twice per year | Year 1 | Dissertation proposal complete |
| Cognitive | Once per year | Year 2 | Dissertation proposal complete |
| Social | Once per year | Year 2 | Dissertation proposal complete |
Once you have proposed your dissertation, presentations are no longer required. The academic year for presentation tracking runs September through August.
Which Venues Count
| Venue | Counts for |
|---|---|
| B4 Brownbag | Social, Behavioral |
| Cognitive Brownbag | Cognitive, Neuroscience |
| CIM/SLAB Brownbag | Behavioral, Neuroscience |
| fMRI Brownbag | Cognitive, Neuroscience |
| 3rd Year Research Presentation | All areas |
Registering a Presentation
- From your dashboard, open the Presentations widget and click the register button, or go to
/graduate/presentation-registration - Complete the three-step wizard
- Click Register Presentation
Step 1: Presentation Details
- Presentation Title (required, 5-200 characters)
- Venue/Series (required) - select from the venues above
- Presentation Date (required)
- Description (optional, up to 500 characters)
Step 2: Abstract
- Optional for most brownbags
- Required for 3rd Year Research Presentations (up to 2000 characters)
Step 3: Review & Submit
Check your details and submit. Registration is recorded immediately — there is no approval step for presentations.
What Happens After You Register
- The presentation is added to your record right away and appears in your dashboard tally
- A calendar event is created for the presentation date
- No reviewer sign-off is needed — unlike mentoring forms or thesis milestones, this is a single-step registration
Tracking Your Progress
The Presentations widget on your dashboard shows:
- How many qualifying presentations you've completed this academic year
- Your next upcoming registered presentation
Use it to confirm a registration went through and to check how many presentations you still need this year.
Drafts
Like the other wizard forms, your in-progress registration is saved as a draft, so you can start it and finish later.
Troubleshooting
My presentation isn't counting toward my requirement
