Welcome to the PBS Knowledge guide for faculty members. This section covers managing your profile, research activities, teaching assignments, and mentoring relationships.

Getting Started

Accessing the System

  1. Visit dartmouthpbs.org
  2. Sign in with your Dartmouth credentials (SSO)
  3. Your profile is automatically populated from Dartmouth records

First-Time Setup

When you first log in:

  1. Review your imported profile information
  2. Add your research interests and biography
  3. Link your publication identifiers (ORCID, Google Scholar)
  4. Verify your lab and research center affiliations

Key Features

Profile Management

Your faculty profile is your public face in the system:

  • Basic Information - Title, contact, office location
  • Biography - Research interests and background
  • Education - Degrees and institutions
  • External Links - Personal website, ORCID, Google Scholar

View and manage your teaching assignments:

  • Current Courses - See enrolled students and materials
  • Past Courses - Access historical course data
  • Syllabi - Upload and share course syllabi
  • Textbooks - Manage required and optional texts

Publication Integration

Keep your publication record up to date:

  • Automatic Import - Publications sync from OpenAlex
  • Author Verification - Confirm you're the correct author
  • Manual Entry - Add publications not in databases
  • Exclusions - Hide papers you don't want displayed

Manage your advising relationships:

  • Current Advisees - Undergraduate and graduate students
  • Thesis Committees - Students you're supervising
  • Milestone Tracking - Monitor student progress
  • Approval Workflows - Approve milestones and requests

Mentoring Tab

  • Current advisees by program level
  • Pending approvals requiring action
  • Upcoming meetings and deadlines

Main Tab

  • Announcements and notifications
  • Quick links to common tasks
  • System updates and news

Research Affiliations

Lab Membership

Your lab affiliations show:

  • Labs you lead (PI status)
  • Labs you're affiliated with
  • Lab member lists and contact info

Research Centers

Research center connections include:

  • Center memberships
  • Your role in the center
  • Associated projects and publications

Projects

Individual research projects display:

  • Project descriptions
  • Team members
  • Related publications
  • Funding sources

Permissions

Faculty members typically have access to:

  • Edit their own profile
  • View undergraduate and graduate student records
  • Manage their course offerings
  • Approve milestones for their advisees

Additional permissions may be granted through:

  • Department roles (chair, director)
  • Group membership (committees, programs)
  • Administrative assignments
