Course Mapping
How Courses Apply
When you complete a course, the system:
- Checks if the course matches any requirement rules
- Applies the course to the most specific matching rule
- Updates the progress for that requirement group
Multiple Applications
Some courses may satisfy multiple requirements:
- The system applies to the most specific requirement first
- You can manually reassign courses in some cases
- "Double counting" policies vary by degree
Viewing Course Applications
- Click on any completed course
- See the "Applies to" section
- View alternative applications if available
GPA Tracking
Overall GPA
Your cumulative GPA is calculated from:
- All graded courses at Dartmouth
- Transfer credits (if applicable)
- Does not include P/F courses
Major GPA
The major GPA includes:
- Courses counting toward major requirements
- Upper-level electives in the major
- May differ from overall GPA
GPA Requirements
Some requirements have GPA minimums:
- Honors thesis: Usually 3.0+ in major
- Certain advanced courses: May require 2.0+
- Latin honors: Based on overall GPA
Credit Counting

- Submit to the department
- Wait for approval (usually 1-2 weeks)
Viewing Approved Exceptions
Exceptions appear in your progress view:

- Linked to the original requirement
Troubleshooting
Course Not Appearing

- Verify enrollment in the registrar system
- Contact support for sync issues
Requirement Not Satisfied

- Some rules have additional constraints (grade, term)
- Consult with your advisor
Incorrect GPA
- GPA syncs from official records
- Recent grades may not be reflected yet
- Contact registrar for GPA disputes
Comparing to Official Audit
caution
PBS Knowledge progress tracking is a planning tool, not an official degree audit. Always verify with:
- Your faculty advisor
- The official Banner degree audit
- The PBS department office
The official audit is the authoritative source for:
- Graduation clearance
- Financial aid requirements
- Honors eligibility
